Battle of the Flowers

The Battle of Flowers Parade is one of San Antonio’s most cherished traditions and the event that gave birth to Fiesta! It began in 1891 as a way to honor the heroes of the Battles of the Alamo and San Jacinto, with local women decorating carriages in flowers and parading in front of the Alamo.

Today, it’s a vibrant, family-friendly celebration featuring floats, marching bands, colorful costumes, and lots of excitement. The parade is still organized entirely by a volunteer group of women—the Battle of Flowers Association—and it’s the only parade in the U.S. run completely by women.

IJAK will be closed in observance of the Battle of Flowers Parade. We hope your family enjoys the celebration and takes part in this special San Antonio tradition!
